Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2i (LGMD2i) is a life limiting disease, which causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting mainly in the shoulder and hip areas. This congenital disease is a very rare form of muscular dystrophy and there is no approved treatment or cure currently available. Over time, this excessive muscle wasting results in overall physical complications including loss of ambulation, cardiovascular, and respiratory complications.
The CureLGMD2i Foundation (CureLGMD2i.org) strives to raise awareness for this ultra rare disease and to support scientific research that is geared directly toward finding a treatment or cure for LGMD2i. CureLGMD2i was founded by the Brazzo family when their daughter, Samantha, was diagnosed with LGMD2i at the age of two. Realizing that there were no organizations accepting donations specifically for LGMD2i research, they decided to create this nonprofit organization and to date have funded close to $1,000,000 in research, advocacy, and awareness programs.
