Come on out and join the CureLGMD2i Foundation and our friends at Coalition to Cure Calpain 3 for our Connecting for a Cure Florida fundraising event celebrating LGMD Awareness Day on September 28th at Evie's Tavern on the Range in Sarasota, FL. Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2i/R9 (LGMD2i/R9) is a life limiting disease, which causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting mainly in the shoulder and hip areas. This congenital disease is a very rare form of muscular dystrophy and there is no approved treatment or cure currently available. Over time this excessive muscle wasting results in overall physical complications including loss of ambulation, cardiovascular, and respiratory complications.

The CureLGMD2i Foundation (CureLGMD2i.org) has currently funded over $1.1 million in scientific research grants and advocacy programs focused on finding a cure for LGMD2i/R9. Our continued support of the annual Iowa Wellstone Dystroglycanopathy Patient and Family Conference and natural history study has formed the headwaters of our research pipeline stretching from the University of Iowa to the University of Florida's Powell Center for Gene Therapy. This collaboration is helping to drive the development of innovative gene therapies that will someday soon be used to slow or prevent the progression of LGMD2i/R9.

In order to maximize our efforts and expedite the development of effective treatments, our goal is to recruit a Chief Scientific Office to directly oversee this process and to help lead our community closer to a cure.
